I asked Jonas Salling, developer of Salling Clicker (a remote control application for Bluetooth phones), about the recent announcement that Apple will release an iPhone SDK in February 2008.

Jason: Can you comment on your commitment to developing a Clicker client for the iPhone?

Jonas Salling: I saw the good news, indeed. I'm evaluating my options at this point. Basically, it comes down to this:

1. Will Apple incorporate something similar to Salling Clicker of their own? If they do, I'll likely leave them alone and focus on other platforms (and products).

2. Will the wireless hardware (Bluetooth and WiFi) be sufficiently accessible to developers?

3. Will they try to get a cut of the revenue stream from software developers. The code signing strategy they're hinting at can certainly be used as a means to such ends, as we've seen on more traditional phone platforms (where it's generally been the carrier who wants some of the developer's money). Hopefully, they'll do the right thing.
