Constant Contact acquired for $1.1 billion by holdings group Endurance International

Endurance said it plans to use Constant Contact to help the organization expand beyond its core focus on web hosting.

Email marketing firm Constant Contact has been acquired by Endurance International Group Holdings in a cash deal worth $1.1 billion.

Endurance, whose brands include BigRock, HostGator, Domain.com and FatCow.com, said it plans to use Constant Contact to help the organization expand beyond its core focus on web hosting. The Constant Contact brand will remain intact.

"Their focus on the customer and product development complements our offerings for small business services," Hari Ravichandran, Endurance president and CEO, said in a statement.

Founded in 1998, Constant Contact targets small businesses and non-profit organizations, offering a range of templates for multi-channel marketing campaigns. While the company has been bleeding subscribers amid increasing competition, it claims to have 650,000 customers worldwide.

As a nearly 20-year-old company, Constant Contact was an early entrant into the email marketing boom. But these days competing services abound, with companies such as Wix and GoDaddy now offering email marketing tools as built-in features on their platforms.
