The renewed contract includes infrastructure-managed services and security, architecture and program management. Infrastructure that CSC currently manages includes the energy company's hosting production systems at CSC's Melbourne datacentre.

CSC has already been responsible for assisting in Powercor-CitiPower's Advanced Interval Metering infrastructure program, which began in 2002. The program saw an overhaul of Powercor-CitiPower's corporate systems, and the development of a wireless mesh network covering 1.1 million Victorian customers to collect meter data.

Powercor-CitiPower general manager IT services Glen McLean said that the choice to use CSC in the past has been due to the IT company's cultural fit and long-term commitment.

"Powercor-CitiPower will continue to evolve its service capability as part of extending the CSC relationship, and will increase the use of CSC's Global Centres of Excellence to improve our ability to respond and scale to industry demands," he said.

CSC Australia president and CEO Gavin Larkings said that the company was looking forward to being the company's technology partner, as it modernises its power distribution technology.

"CSC is proud to be working with Powercor-CitiPower as they continue to transform their electricity distribution business systems and processes and realise opportunities to provide value to consumers with emerging trends and technologies within the utility sector," he said.
