D&B acquires data-matching unit of social analytics firm Fliptop

Fliptop's software aggregates public web and social data. By acquiring its social data matching business unit, D&B plans to link Fliptop's unstructured social data with its own proprietary structured data.

The business insight firm Dun & Bradstreet has acquired the social data matching business unit of Fliptop, the company announced Thursday.

D&B said it plans to use the acquisition to link Fliptop’s unstructured data with its own existing structured data to help its clients expand relationships with customers, and prioritize leads and targets.

The deal is the first acquisition under D&B’s CEO Bob Carrigan, who said in a statement:

Introducing rich social data that matches people with public profiles to the 230 million businesses in our database will offer our customers an edge in an increasingly digital sales and marketing environment.

Last month D&B and SugarCRM announced a partnership, a deal that shifted more eyes onto D&B's social data while also helping SugarCRM filter information about more than 230 million businesses and 100 million contacts worldwide.

As for the Fliptop deal, the firm will continue to operate as an independent, non-affiliated company.
