Dell joins workstation race

Available right now, Dell's WorkStation 400 matches uniprocessor and dual-CPU 266MHz and 300MHz Pentium II chips with Windows NT 4.0. The systems support up to 512Mb of ECC RAM and 13Gb of hard disk storage. Prices start at £2,449 + VAT; a dual 300MHz Pentium II system with 512Mb RAM and 9Gb hard drive costs £7,519 + VAT. Dell also offers optional high-end graphics cards including the Elsa Gloria-L/MX with 8Mb VRAM and the Appian Jeronimo J2 as well as the Matrox Millennium default.

Dell has also beefed up its support and software options to cope with the demands of the workstation market. Service options include next business day onsite support while systems have been tested to ensure support for applications by Parametric, Autodesk, Bentley, Mathworks and Neovision.
