Dell has bolstered its leadership team with two key executive hires.
The computing giant announced Monday that former AMD CEO Rory Read is joining Dell as the company's chief operating officer and president of worldwide commercial sales. In addition, Paul Perez, a former executive for Cisco Systems, was named chief technology officer of Dell's enterprise solutions group.
In his new role, Read will be tasked with optimizing Dell's go-to-market strategy, with a focus on enhancing the company's direct selling capabilities. He will also oversee Dell's global systems integrator relationships and the global OEM business. As for Perez, he will take responsibility for Dell's UCS server and management portfolio.
On Dell's part, the hires are both smart and strategic. Read obviously has the resume for the job, having held the title of COO and president for fellow computer maker Lenovo, as well as a stint with IBM. That kind of executive and industry experience can't hurt. Perez is well known in the industry for his work with Cisco, as well as his work as chief technologist for HP.
"Rory and Paul add enterprise IT expertise and depth to Dell's leadership team and will help accelerate Dell's place as an enterprise powerhouse and trusted advisor to businesses globally," said Dell CEO Michael Dell, in a statement. "I look forward to their contributions -- from the design of our solutions to how we deliver and support them with our customers."
