According to Engadget, Dell made it known at the D8 conference that consumers stateside will be able to pick up a Streak tablet computer "next month." (That's July, in case you haven't flipped the page on that antique paper calendar to June.)

Priced at $500, the Dell Streak will be available unlocked. No word on whether or not it will be available cheaper or even free (like it is in the UK with O2) with a service provider contract if one should be specified. That's puts it head to head with the 16GB Wi-Fi only version of the iPad, which costs $499. Each has some different features, but the iPad does have a considerably larger screen size.

Do you think they worth the same price tag? And are you thinking of picking up an unlocked Dell Streak soon?
