Dell’s multi-year software distribution deal with Google, announced this week, follows its recent agreement with AMD to begin using AMD chips.

While the deals serve to boost Dell’s bottom line through incremental revenue and cost savings, the Dell pacts also impact the long standing privileged relationships industry powerhouses Intel and Microsoft have benefited from: Dell no longer maintains complete exclusivity with Intel and Dell is enabling Google to make inroads against Microsoft. In other words, the Wintel juggernaut may be slowed.
