eBay is warning against a new version of an email scam that attempts to persuade unwary recipients to hand over their credit card details. The email, which does not come from an eBay address, purports to be from the auction company and tells recipients their order will be with them in two to three days. The email then requests victims who think they have received it in error go to a web page to cancel the order. A link in the email then takes victims to a reasonable mock-up of an eBay order page, where it requests private details including credit card numbers. According to Wired.com, which un-masked the problem, the scam is a new variation of an old ruse targeted at eBay customers.
