What's that they say about pride and falls...

Online bank Egg's website has fallen over due to unspecified technical difficulties, just a day after the dot-com success story announced it had finally broken even. As yet the bank has not revealed what the nature of the fault is. A visit to the Egg homepage reveals the message: "We'd like to say sorry. We are currently experiencing some technical problems with our site, which we are working hard to resolve as quickly as possible." A spokeswoman for the online bank said: "This is a small technical glitch, the site should be back up very shortly." She confirmed the site hadn't been hacked and there was no risk of customer data being compromised. The problem is particularly unfortunate for the site, a day after releasing positive financial results. The spokeswoman sighed: "It's just one of those things." However, the thrifty site, ever alert to the chance to earn a bob or two, didn't let technical problems stop it from pitching for new customers. Below the apology reads a further message: "The good news is that you can still apply for an Egg Card or Egg Savings Account online now. Just complete the short application and we will e-mail you back as soon as we can." For related news, see
