The consumer protection commissioner of the European Union is investigating reports that Apple's consumer devices can catch fire or explode. There have been a handful of reports involving iPods and iPhones, in Europe, America and Asia, amid a history of portable electronics with lithium batteries providing a more exciting experience to their owners than might reasonably be expected.
