Europe close to 100% mobile penetration

The European mobile market has been growing consistently and in 2005 major European countries witnessed a mobile penetration of 100%. With 97% of all subscribers, GSM remains the network of choice.

The European mobile market has been growing consistently and in 2005 major European countries witnessed a mobile penetration of 100%. With 97% of all subscribers, GSM remains the network of choice. For data services, SMS is the most successful and revenue-generating service for the operators, notching between 15-20% of their revenues and in some cases accounting for 95% of revenues generated from data services. Western European Mobile market reported a growth of 15%, Research and Markets said. Of all the mobile phones sold in this sector in June 2005, 30% were Bluetooth-enabled, while about 20% and 95% of GSM and 3G phones were equipped with MP3 or similar technology.
