European cable broadband market share to drop from 53% to 15% in 2010

Europeans will get their broadband Internet connections mainly through upgraded phone networks by 2010, while cable television operators will see their market share decline to 15%, according to Forrester Research. Cash shortages will kill cable's momentum, and its market share will drop from 53% in 2000 to 15% in 2010. By 2010 DSL will be found in 80% of all homes with a broadband line. The remaining broadband homes not connected via cable or phone wire will get access through a host of remaining technologies such as fixed wireless, fiber optic cables and even the electricity grid. Forrester predicts that 72 mln European households, or 41%, will have broadband by 2010.
