Everyone needs a numpty

The trouble with most people is that they are too clever. This means they work everything out with their mind rather than pay heed to their feelings.

Don’t worry, I’m not getting all touchy-feely-creepy. By feelings, I mean the gut instinct. Because people’s minds by definition are rather clever, they are also rather clever at justifying actions and situations on an intellectual level.

When it comes to planning, designing and building web sites, if you have a brilliant idea that turns out just to feel… pants, then go with this feeling and look at the issue again. What often happens is that you arrive at a solution and then justify how it works afterwards. This also happens when you write an essay.

So everyone needs a numpty in their head to hold back occasionally from the critical thinking process and see if what they’re doing actually works.
