PalmOne on Wednesday appointed Ed Colligan as the company’s president. Colligan is one of the Palm executives who left the company in the late '90s to help found competing handheld-device maker Handspring, where he was president. Palm acquired Handspring last year, and Colligan returned as senior vice president and general manager of the wireless business unit of the company. As PalmOne president, he will report to CEO Todd Bradley and look after the worldwide channel, carrier and online sales, marketing; product marketing; and engineering functions.

The handheld maker Palm renamed itself PalmOne in October after it spun off operating system maker PalmSource and acquired rival Handspring.
