Exclusive: Storm approaches as AOL claims top spot

AOL has told ZDNet News that its UK membership is now 550,000. The online giant said that in "real terms" the figure meant it had over one million "active" users online because AOL subscribers have the option of adding friends or family (up to five per person) to a single account.

AOL has told ZDNet News that its UK membership is now 550,000. The online giant said that in "real terms" the figure meant it had over one million "active" users online because AOL subscribers have the option of adding friends or family (up to five per person) to a single account.

A spokesperson for the company said AOL was still number 1 in the UK despite similar claims by Freeserve. The spokesperson described Freeserve's claim as "disingenuous".
