Eye-Fi is expanding its wireless SD card collection with the new 8GB Mobile X2 card, which creates its own wireless network with mobile devices.

The Eye-Fi Mobile X2 can allow a photographer to upload photos from anywhere by connecting to a smartphone or tablet. Ideally, the mobile device should have 3G/4G access to really be able to upload from anywhere.

This card is integrated with Eye-Fi's new Direct Mode, making these uploads possible even when far away from a Wi-Fi hotspot. Note that the apps that will becoming out to be paired with the Mobile X2 card will only be for Android and iOS devices.

Interested buyers can pre-order the Mobile X2 card immediately, and it will start shipping on April 17 for $79.99.
