Facebook to open up to developers

Facebook is expected to open up its feeds to third party developers today, so they can build new applications on the never-ending flow of data from the social networking site’s 200 million users.

According to the Wall Street Journal, developers will get access to photos, videos, notes and comments that users upload to Facebook. Developers will still need permission from users.

What does it all mean?

New applications--much like the ones that are built on Twitter feeds--can now incorporate Facebook too. One of the reasons Twitter has become popular is that developers have also used its feeds to build software that often is easier to use.

Facebook is looking to get the same developer effects. Facebook’s move will be detailed at a developer event today.
