First UK wedding shown on the Internet

It's a wwwedding, as Brent Council lets surfers watch couples getting hitched
Written by Graeme Wearden, Contributor

A wedding has been broadcast over the Internet for the first time in the UK. Ravi Ram and Mamta Patel tied the knot this morning at a register office in Brent, north-west London, and the happy event was shown on the council's Web site.

Having installed a Webcam in the register office, Brent Council plans to offer this free service for every wedding ceremony. Pictures are taken every 15 seconds and the images are then transferred to the Web site.

The appropriately-named Mr Ram was delighted by the live Web broadcast, as his sister and many friends were able to watch the ceremony from Mauritius.

Brent Council was inspired by a couple whose relatives in New Zealand shared their wedding by listening by phone. It plans to include sound and real-time video on the wedding broadcasts in the near future.
