fring mobile VoIP client gets updated with IM improvements and file transfer capability

I've talked about fring a couple of times on this blog (June 07 Windows Mobile release) and still continue to use it on my S60 and Windows Mobile devices. Elen sent me a press release announcing the latest version of fring that now includes the capability to conduct file transfers from mobile to mobile or mobile to PC, enhancements to the IM interface, and a new fringME! functionality that allows people to be reached from their web page or have their location appear on a Google Map (if they have a device with integrated GPS).

The new fring version has enhanced chat features including new real-time displays alerting the user of new incoming chat, real time typing indication and easier navigation between different chat windows, making for rich PC-style interaction.

fringsters can also choose to activate the fringME! web feature, making themselves contactable from any PC via their own web pages, blogs, home pages, email signatures, MySpace, and soon Facebook pages. A fringster can add the fringME! feature to almost anywhere he or she has an internet presence.

fringME! also allows fringsters with GPS enabled handsets to choose whether to have their real-time location displayed via a pop-up GoogleMap.

fring is also available in more languages, including English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Russian, and Chinese. fring is a free VoIP client for mobile devices and this latest version is currently available for S60 devices. Versions for other platforms are under development.
