Gateway has no plans to cut Asian staff

Gateway Inc. (gtw) spokeman for Asia Pacific said that there are no plans for layoffs in the Asia-Pacific region, indicating that staff at its regional assembly plant based in Malacca, Malaysia will not be cut. The proposed job cuts were announced on Thursday after Gateway had fourth-quarter losses of $94.3 million, or 29 cents per share, on sales of $2.37 billion, including a $187 million charge. --Julian Matthews, ZDNet Asia
