Gateway shares slide 18 percent

Shares in PC maker Gateway slid 18 percent Friday, one day after the company reported sharply lower sales and announced more layoffs and store closures. Gateway’s stock closed down $1.14 to $5.22, on a volume of 14.4 million shares--more than five times its average daily volume.
