Gateway will implement AMD's PCnet-FAST Ethernet controller on its E-1000 Series. The chip includes the IBM/AMD developed Magic Packet which has found favour with several PC vendors including Compaq, IBM PC Company and Hewlett-Packard. Magic Packet allows network managers to remotely carry out management and upgrade routines by powering up PCs.
