General Electric said Friday that it has launched the next phase of its Ecomagination Challenge, a crowdsourcing effort to generate strong business ideas. This installment will focus on the ecohome.

GE made the announcement at the Consumer Electronics Show. The latest effort revolves around a challenge to power the home. The effort begins Jan. 18 and runs through March 1.

The Ecomagination Challenge is a community effort where users vote up the best ideas. The first phase focused on powering the grid. GE took the best ideas and put their creators in touch with venture capitalists for funding and business development.

In addition to an investment and partnerships, GE execs and a judging panel will select five $100,000 Innovation Award winners.

The Ecomagination venture launched in July with a bevy of VCs including Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers and others.
