David Utter of WebProNews pointed me to a bright yellow box on the Gmail login page.  The box reads "New! Google services will now be more personalized with Google Accounts. Learn More" -- naturally leading me to wonder what they are talking about.

The information found in the page it links to isn't particularly helpful -- it's actually pretty much useless for anyone wondering what new feature Gmail is getting.  After doing some digging, I found this article that suggests Gmail data isn't currently used to help power personalization.

Right now, we’re using information from Google Search History, Google Bookmarks and your personalized Google homepage, among other services that are tied to your Google Account. At this time, your Gmail and AdWords information will not be used to personalize your experience.

The box found on the Gmail login page makes me wonder if they "flipped the switch" so to speak, but haven't updated this article yet.  If that is the case, this new source of data would provide a wealth of information to help Google understand its users.  Now the question is -- does that bother you?

[Thanks David!]
