Good Technology is rolling out an enterprise mobility management app for the Apple Watch.
The app will provide management and control of Good Work email and calendar notifications on Apple Watch, in addition to supporting iOS 8.2 MDM controls.
The app is built on the Good Dynamics Secure Mobility Platform, which is aimed squarely at the emerging wearable device market, but it may also help the company segue into the IoT space. Good touts the platform's strength in secure mobile app development, as it enables mobile identity and access management features like two-factor authentication and access control.
As for new Apple Watch app, Good claims it is the first EMM vendor to support policy management and productivity on Apple's wearable device. But it's certainly not alone in the class of wearable business apps.
Enterprise-grade apps for the Apple Watch are gaining in numbers. From Salesforce to Microsoft to Evernote, cloud-based software vendors are lining up to list their apps ahead of the watch's official debut -- and they have a legitimate reason to do so.
According to a recent survey from MobileIron, 94 percent of professionals want to use wearable devices for work-related tasks such as email and calendar access, getting reminders and making phone calls. And if sales clues are an indication, the Apple Watch could end up capturing the lion's share of the smart watch market.
Without shipping a single unit, Apple Watch is already the leader in smart watch sales online, selling more units on April 10 than all other smart watches combined for all of Q1 2015, according to a new report from 1010data.
