With the move, Google gets into the e-discovery market. E-discovery, short for electronic discovery, refers to the chore required to search and find data in case you are sued.
Google Apps Vault is an add-on that preserves data---email, chats and other correspondence---that needs to be stored for litigation, regulation and compliance laws.
According to Google, Vault is instant-on and can get you Gmail information with a few clicks. Vault also allows Google Apps customers to archive, retain and preserve email and chats.
Vault will run Google Apps customers $5 per user per month.
