Google generosity continues, Google Checkout that is. Google declares on its hompage:
Google will give you $10 to spend when you use Google Checkout.
Google continues to subsidize consumer usage of Checkout and giveaway merchant processing. Google's Checkout "generosity" is pegged to have cost Google $20 million dollars last quarter: See “Google Checkout: $20 million AdWords pitch.”
Is it working? Is it worth it? Not if Checkout is considered as a viable stand-alone service, but perhaps as part of Google's long term end game to drive more AdWords sales.
Even given Google's AdWords driven Checkout strategy, however, Google ought to promote it within the industry on a more professional basis, such as at the National Retail Federation Annual Convention that took place this week in New York City, as I present in "Google Checkout: Small retail footprint at retail’s big show."
