Google Maps for the Treo
Thanks to my friend Andrew Carton of Treonauts, I have just found the coolest "wow" app in quite some time for my Treo 700p - a new Treo-optimized version of Google Maps that is simply the best and fastest map and location tool I've used on this device. As Andrew reports in his post, Palm announced that a number of companies - Google, Yahoo!, ebay and TypePad - would be releasing Treo-specific applications to coincide with the release of the consumer-priced Treo 680.

Google Maps for the Treo offers both map and satellite views, driving directions, and the ability to call the phone number associated with any found address. This is an application I can see using all the time - especially when I'm on the go. There are a few things I'd like to see like the ability to add a found location directly to my Contacts list and a way to generate a permanent favorite locations list but as a first effort there's very little to complain about. And the price is right of course. Like all Google apps, it's free.

The application, which can be downloaded directly to your Treo is under 500K. I'm going back to play with this some more. Read Andrew's very thorough and fully illustrated review to get more details on this amazing piece of work.
