Google plugs AIM contacts into Gmail

Google has tweaked its messaging tools to allow Google users to chat to AOL members without having to create a dedicated AOL account.Building on a messaging partnership with AOL that dates back to 2005, Google announced the changes on Thursday, which affect its Gmail, Orkut, iGoogle and Google Talk on Android Phones services.

Contacts can be added to a Google users' chat list by putting in their AOL usernames. All existing AIM contacts will need to be re-added in Gmail, though AOL has provided a tool that automates this.
