Google unveils plans for solar array
Google has chosen EI Solutions to build a 1.6 MW solar power system for their Mountain View location.
Google has chosen EI Solutions to build a 1.6 MW solar power system for their Mountain View location. The array could produce enough electricity to power 1000 California homes, but will generate only 30% of Google's power needs. Savings will be around $393,000 per year -- or $30 million over its lifetime.

The system cost Google $3 million dollars, but it will pay for itself within 15 years according to EI Solutions. Here are some interesting facts about the new solar array [pdf]:
Location: Mountain View, California
System Size: 1.6 MW
Energy Output: 2,611,719 kWh per year
Savings: $393,000 + annually
Results: C02 emissions reduced by 3.6 million pounds/year (equivalent to 4.28 million car miles/year)
