Groupon has reportedly acquired Uptake, a startup focused on extracting travel tips and information from our favorite social media sources.
Financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed, although AllThingsD reports that the merger cost was in the "teens" of millions, according to an unnamed source who is "familiar with the deal."
Founded in 2008 and based in Menlo Park, Calif., Uptake has a platform that "uncovers" a person's social travel network on Facebook, identifying where friends have been so that the user can pick their brains about recommendations and tips from trusted sources.
It's not clear as to how that solution will fit in with Groupon -- if at all in case this is just another acquisition for hiring rather than for obtaining some sort of unique technology.
However, it could be integrated with Groupon's Getaways travel-focused deals, offered in partnership with Expedia.
Groupon has been on a bit of a shopping spree lately. In the last few weeks, the Chicago-based enterprise announced that it purchased e-commerce data startup Adku as well as social shopping site Mertago.
