Doc has a young attitude but an old body, and remembers when some printers still used hot-metal Linotype machines. In fact, deep in the bowels of Doc's lair sits a 1927 Intertype line-casting machine and several letterpress printing presses – along with a Compugraphic Editwriter phototypesetter. Doc loves technology from every era.
So I celebrated the 125th birthday of Ottmar Mergenthaler's great invention, the Linotype, this past July.
Before laser printers, multi-function devices, and inkjets, there was the Linotype machine – the backbone of the printing industry for a number of decades.
