Hosting company blues

They keep blocking my PC's IP addresses. I can't send Email.
Written by Dan Kusnetzky, Contributor

In the past month each of my PCs and now my Android phone have been blocked so that I couldn't send Email through my own Email system. It appears that my hosting company, Lunarpages, has set up some sort of "improved" security system on my server and it has decided that I'm not worthy of sending Email.

The symptoms have always been the same. Everything worked fine the day before. When I tried to send my first Email of the morning, the Email agent timed out without sending the message. I would then, of course, try to send the mail from another PC. When that didn't work, I'd try sending it from my Android smartphone.  Each of them would fail in turn. So, I'd try logging into my Webmail system.  That almost always worked. Thank goodness.

Since it was first thing in the morning and I deal with Email first thing, I need to get Email working quickly. When I call their telephone support number, I get a recorded message saying that they don't open until 7 AM PT! Their website clearly states that telephone support is available 7 AM to 7 PM.  I guess they think that the whole world works on Pacific Time.

For the most part, I've liked working with them. They must have changed something in the last couple of months to improve "security." At this point, all it is doing is keeping me out of my own systems.

9:00 AM ET Update

It appears that my system picked up the fact that I logged in from several different systems and used a number of different tools.  My email tried to access the server using both IMAP and POP. My FTP client accessed the FTP server. That look interesting enough for access to be blocked.

It appears that the issue has been resolved for now.
