HP may be releasing new Windows Mobile devices

An HP Jornada 548 was my first Pocket PC back in 2001 and then for the next couple of years I primarily stuck with the HP line (568, 4340, 1940, etc) and was very happy with the HP Jornada and iPAQ models. HP has been quite silent in the Windows Mobile world for a couple of years, but a new post at Unwired View reveals rumors of 5 new Windows Mobile devices from HP. There are Phone Edition, Smartphone, and standalone PDA models in the collection. I was really surprised to see a non-phone model since it has been quite some time since we have seen a non-Palm PDA.

The rumored iPAQ 914 (picture shown in this blog entry) is the most powerful entry with HSDPA support, 3 megapixel camera, Windows Mobile 6 Professional (touch screen), integrated GPS and WiFi radios. The 614 has about the same specs, but may not have a camera and does not have the QWERTY keyboard. The 314 is a navigation device and may not even run Windows Mobile. The 214 sounds like an HP iPAQ 4700 successor with a 4 inch VGA display and integrated WiFi. The 114 is the entry level model with the standard PDA features and a price somewhere around US$400. The rumor is that these devices may be coming in October and November and I look forward to seeing HP get back into the game.

UPDATE: This was a short lived rumor as HP officially announced the 5 new iPAQ series at an event in New York yesterday. Thanks to jkOnTheRun for the heads-up on the news.
