HP to continue making TouchPads (for now)

HP's TouchPad is the tablet that won't die.

Despite announcing an end to manufacturing webOS hardware, we have decided to produce one last run of TouchPads to meet unfulfilled demand. We don't know exactly when these units will be available or how many we'll get, and we can't promise we'll have enough for everyone. We do know that it will be at least a few weeks before you can purchase. See more information in the updated FAQs below.

Let's make something clear here, HP isn't making $99 tablets because the company has found a way to make money from a $99 tablet (especially when that tablet has a bill or materials of over $300). No, the reason that HP is going to continue to make the TouchPad is that the company still has a huge amount of TouchPad component still in the supply chain.

So what HP is doing here is clearing the supply chain, because selling TouchPads as a loss is better than not making any return on those components.

It makes financial sense, but it makes HP look like it doesn't know what it's doing.

So, who still want's a TouchPad?
