HTC announces 5 inch Droid DNA for Verizon Wireless

HTC does a good job of making solid devices and the latest HTC Sense powered device is the Droid DNA. There is no stylus support so I am not sure how appealing 5 inches of smartphone will be to the general public.

HTC announces 5 inch Droid DNA for Verizon Wireless

HTC is holding a press event in New York today with Verizon and is finally bringing a high end Android device to rival the new HTC One X+ to the largest US wireless carrier. The Droid DNA by HTC looks to be the Japanese Butterfly phone from HTC with a 5 inch 1080p Super LCD 3 display. The Droid DNA does not have pen capability so it is not a direct competitor to the Samsung Galaxy Note II, but it does have a larger display than most smartphones. Pricing and availability haven't been revealed yet, but the press event just started. The Droid DNA will be available for pre-order today with a fantastic price of $199. The DNA will be released next Wednesday, 21 November. It looks like a great device for Verizon and will appeal to the Android enthusiast.

Specifications are important for Android users and on this device you will find the following:

  • Android Jelly Bean with Sense 4+
  • 5 inch 1080p Super LCD 3 display (440 ppi - WOW)
  • 1.5 GHz quad-core Snapdragon S 4 processor
  • 2 GB of RAM
  • 16GB of storage (11GB usable) with no expansion capability
  • 2.1 megapixel front facing camera with wide-angle lens
  • 8 megapixel camera with ImageSense technology
  • Beats Audio with integrated 2.55 V amplifier
  • Beats Audio with additional amplifier, like the HTC 8X
  • Verizon LTE support
  • Wireless charging (note the trend on Verizon's new devices)

While the HTC Droid DNA is being shown off in New York for Verizon, we see many rumors of this new device going to the international market as the DLX as well. If there was ever a phone to challenge my iPhone 5 on Verizon this is it. Unfortunately, I find the S Pen on my Galaxy Note II to be too compelling of a feature to go to a large screen Android device without it.
