HTC denies report of Windows Phone 7 shipment delays

A report on October 18 that HTC had discovered issues with its Windows Phone 7 devices that could lead to delivery delays is being denied by HTC.

The report sent HTC's stock plummeting yesterday. But when I had a chance to speak with an HTC spokesperson on October 19 about the supposed issue, I was told nothing was amiss... sort of.

"We are shipping our (WP7) phones this week, as planned," said a spokesperson for the company. "Everything pointing to a delay in delivery is wrong."

But HTC is not denying completely that there have may been issues with some of its Windows Phone 7 phones.

"There are always things that pop up," the spokesperson said, "but they get fixed if there is anything wrong."

Microsoft, for its part, would not comment on the reports, referring all calls to HTC.

The report I read on the Taiwanese Focus News Channel site, said that HTC had "noted the problem and was taking action to resolve it, selling extended until the end of the session."

The HTC spokesperson would not provide any details as to what "the problem" was, in this case. I heard talk that the problem could have involved HTC customizations done to the Windows Phone 7 devices -- which could have been fixed via updates pushed to the carriers of the soon-to-be-delivered phones. But HTC officials would not comment further.

Microsoft and HTC unveiled a number of new HTC Windows Phone 7 devices last week, including the HTC 7 Surround, the HTC 7 Mozart, the HTC 7 Trophy, the HTC 7 Pro and the HTC HD7. The first Windows Phone 7 phones go on sale in Europe this week, on October 21, and will be available in the U.S. starting on November 8.

Update (October 21): In spite of HTC's "no delay" claims, it looks as if many of its phones are not available on October 21, as advertised, according to Neowin. Some stores and carriers are saying they won't have HTC phones for two weeks, Neowin said.
