Along with new streaming plans, Hulu is planning a jump into virtual reality.

Hulu is planning an Internet TV service akin to Dish's Sling TV and Sony's PlayStation Vue, with current plans to launch in early 2017 with several major content partners, according to the Wall Street Journal.

The Internet TV service could allow Hulu users to purchase bundled networks for viewing. The Wall Street Journal reports Hulu currently plans to price the service at roughly $40 per month based on analyst estimates, with content partners including ESPN, ABC, FX, and Fox.

Dish and Sony have been pushing similar online television services to encourage "cord cutters" to ditch cable and stream content over Internet services. Hulu's new subscription plan will reportedly be separate from the current, premium version of Hulu.

Comcast's NBCUniversal, who owns a stake in Hulu, is said to not yet have struck a streaming deal.

The move to a subscription service could be what Hulu needs to take on big cable industry players Comcast and Time Warner Cable. Its current agreements with networks only allow it to stream shows days after they are on cable -- like Netflix.
