IBM and National Semi end chip deal

As previously reported in PCWeek, IBM will stop selling Cyrix chips by the end of the year. IBM will also take possession of "certain assets" from National Semiconductor Corp.

As previously reported in PCWeek, IBM will stop selling Cyrix chips by the end of the year. IBM will also take possession of "certain assets" from National Semiconductor Corp. National (NYSE:NSM) will take a one-time charge of $50 million to $55 million in connection with the agreement.

"National will fulfill customer demand for Cyrix-designed IBM (NYSE:IBM) processors and ensure uninterrupted seamless support via our worldwide sales and support network and state-of-the-art 8-inch, 0.25-micron wafer fab in South Portland, Maine," said Michael Bereziuk, vice president for worldwide marketing and sales at National, in a press release.
