IDC: PCs up

Global personal computer sales jumped 15.7 percent in the third quarter to 38.4 million units. Dell had 17.4% of the market with 6.67 million units and HP had 17.1%, or 6.55 million units. IDC had projected 10.4 percent global growth, and analysts were surprised by a 16.1% surge in U.S. sales and a 17.5% rise in European sales. Sales in Japan rose about 10%.
