IIA picks new CEO

The Internet Industry Association has named its new CEO, after more than a year of searching.

The internet industry lobby organisation announced today that former TransACT general manager for strategy wholesale and regulator Peter Lee would head up the Internet Industry Association (IIA).

"Peter is well known by many in the sector and, having built up over 28 years of experience in the telecommunications industry, has a depth of knowledge and insight that will be invaluable to our members and the organisation," the IIA said in a statement.

"Peter's tasks will be to execute the strategic vision and objectives of the Board, as we begin the next phase of the IIA's journey with a more contemporary focus, firmly fixed on matters relating to the Digital Economy and Productivity, eCommerce and the issues most important and relevant to our members."

The IIA lost its 13-year veteran CEO Peter Coroneos back in September 2011, after announcing his plans to retire in February. Australian Institute of Company Directors general manager for communications, Steve Burrell, was set to take up the role, but the IIA was forced to look again after Burrell had a change of heart.
