LCD TVs outperformed CRT TVs in shipments in May 2005 for the first time in Japan. LCD TV shipments expanded 74.9% from a year earlier to 291,000 units, accounting for 52.0% of total TV shipments, while CRT TV shipments dropped 32.4% to 240,000 units, or 42.8%, the Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association said. Plasma display panel TV shipments also increased 17.4% to 29,000 units, or 5.2% of the total. Overall TV shipments rose 2.6% to 560,000 units in May for the eighth consecutive month of YTY increase.
