Beleaguered database giant Informix refused to be drawn today on speculation that it is about to cut its worldwide workforce by half. The company has said it will make announcements next week after a meeting to discuss financial results takes place between CEO Bob Finocchio and chief financial officer Jean-Yves Dexmier.

Speculation has been rife ever since Finocchio ordered a restatement of the company's results following the discovery of irregularities during the past two years. This is expected to result in the company reporting heavy losses instead of the profits which were originally listed.

On 18 November the company will meet with financial analysts in New York to discuss the extent of the financial damage and try and come-up with a solution.
