Infosys reportedly inks $98M deal with TNT Express

India's second-largest outsourcing vendor is said to have secured a deal worth US$98.71 million, to deliver application development and maintenance services to the courier services provider, TNT Express.

Infosys has reportedly secured an outsourcing contract worth 6.2 billion rupees (US$98.71 million) with Netherlands-based courier service provider, TNT Express.

Already a client of the second-largest Indian IT outsourcing vendor, TNT will extend this relationship to include the delivery of application development and maintenance services, according to a report by Times of India, which cited sources familiar with the issue. 

The courier delivery service provider is aiming to save US$220 million by 2015 through consolidating services, optimizing infrastructure, improving productivity, and slashing costs. It it looking to tweak its portfolio, focusing instead on more lucrative markets including international and special services offerings, and relinquish operations in China and Brazil in a bid to reduce the company's exposure to global fixed-air capacity. 

TNT said it was investing US$200 million in infrastructure and IT deployments through to 2015, with the aim to automate its depots and hubs. Such plans include a new online booking and payment platform to enhance customer experience. 

Infosys last month announced plans to hire up to 16,000 engineers this year  to support growth in the U.S. and Europeean markets.
