Intel designing 1-watt chip

Ultra low power consuming mobile Pentium 500MHz processor due later in 2000

Intel will release a mobile Pentium processor later this year that runs at 500MHz while consuming only 1 watt of power, VP Paul Ottelini said at a conference for financial analysts Thursday.

Few details were offered on the chip, which could offer extended battery life with the power savings.
