Intel preparing Sandy Bridge-E processors for November 15 release?

While AMD's new Bulldozer desktop chips are getting their roll-out delayed to next month, Intel may be firming up the release date for its new Sandy Bridge-E processors. According to a report from DonanimHaber, Intel will drop the new "extreme processors" on November 15, potentially just a few weeks after Bulldozer attempts to swing enthusiast attention back to AMD.

Intel is estimating that Sandy Bridge-E -- which will comprise the Core i7-3820, Core i7-3930K and Core i7-3960X -- will boast performance improvements of up to 65 percent over the previous Gulftown-based Extreme CPUs. But everything may not be going smoothly with the launch, as rumors persist that the new chips may ship initially without the promised PCI Express 3.0 support.

As with its predecessors, the top-end Core i7-3960X will retail at $999 for deep-pocketed performance freaks, while the Core i7-3930K will come in around $583. Both are six-core unlocked processors. The Core i7-3820 will be priced around $294, and the quad-core chip will complete with Bulldozer eight-core offerings, which will be priced around $300. All three feature quad-channel memory controllers and use the LGA2011 socket.
