Saturday night and I'm cruising at a steady 65mph on the M4 motorway, headed home, Kent-wards, with a motorobike strapped to a motorbike trailer bobbling behind us amidst the glow and rumble of night time traffic.

Only two hours earlier, I was picking up my motorbike from storage at my good friend Oiio's. But there were problems. We were stood around the trailer, scratching our heads over how exactly to tighten up a ratchet strap. After half an hour or so of almost-got-it, I said "Let's look it up on the internet". There it was, a simple PDF that amply described the principle of feeding the strap through and then ratcheting the ratchet.

They really are quite simple. As long as you know how. And this is what the World Wide Web is so good, this transference of knowledge. Last week in a similar situation I fitted a lightbulb to my aging Honda Civic. And now we take it all for granted…

Next week, the ultimate Lemon Drizzle Cake!!
