Wall Street seemed to pause during morning trading Friday as investors waited for employment data from the government and then took their time to ponder it.

At midday, after dipping sharply, the Nasdaq was down 6.62 points to 2,139.58, while the Dow Jones industrial average followed a similar pattern and was up 20.88 points to 10,817.53.
