At the local seaside art centre, I went to cobble together a WordPress site this morning on my trusty/crusty ThinkPad X60s, with a steaming mug of caffe latte. A woman very kindly offered me her seat in the shade so I could see the screen.
But it was a ruse, a ruse to effuse and wax lyrical about her new iPad.
“It’s lovely!”, she proclaimed “So easy to use!”
I quizzed her about the keyboard, surely it must be a stubble-fingered exercise. “Oh no, it’s lovely too!”
See, I’ve never heard anyone say that about a PC. My 5 year old laptop is lovely but not in an effusive way. It is ugly, like a japanese car from the ’80s, but it is solid and reliable. However, it doesn’t have a wow factor, or an ooh factor for that matter.
Those technically in the know doubtless will poo-poo these mere trinkets. However, Personal Computers were never meant to catch on.
